Smoke Signels Chap 3It was dark when Lady walked the wooden platform towards the train. Tramp had just come back from a 4-hour brake and was preparing to do an early morning shift. He walked with Lady. Within a few hours it would be daylight. The cold morning fail air meant that the potbelly stoves inside the mail train where burning heat, their exhaust plums rising from the forked stove pipes above the mail car roofs. Payroll was usually carried on the fast schedules of the daily mail. The train was four cars, three RPO and one payroll. All painted a stunning light yellow and forest green. At the lead in front of the Payroll Car was #104, a 2-6-0 mogSmoke Signels Chap 3
